 Disappointing Performance June 27, 2008

Installation and setup of the wireless extender was as easy as purported. However, I'm having a hard time determining whether I'm actually getting any improvement in cell reception while in my home. Voice quality during calls is still only fair to poor with lots of garbling. And I still have instances where someone tries to call me and the call goes straight to voice mail without ever ringing my cellphone. I had hoped the extender would overcome some of the inadequacies of cellular technology, but that seems not to be the case.
It's interesting how bimodal the reviews for this product are: folks either love it or hate it. Based on other reviews and my own experience, it would seem to be a good product in applications where there is a significant difference in the signal strength outside your home vs what you get inside. That is, if you get 4 bars outside and only 0 or 1 inside, then this may be worth a try. On the other hand, if you get a decent signal in your home and you're just trying to improve call quality (as was my case), then take a pass on these extenders.

This booster helped a lot but it is not perfect. Installation is indeed very critical!

I read a review in a magazine and some other customer input but I was still skeptical because the cell service is so bad where I live. The installation process is significant but the results are noticable. The boost only works very nearby. No where as far as advertised.
 Ideal for my metal roof problem June 11, 2008

I live in the suburb of LA. I have 3-4 bars out side of my house with Verizon service, but because of my metal roof I have no service in side. I also work out my home office, so every time someone calls, I had to run out of the house to answer the phone.
I took the advice of the PVC pipe about 8 feet above my roof, ran the cable and put the base unit in my attic. It worked like a champ on the first try. It didn't take long to install at all for a guy that is not very handy to begin with. Now I have 3-4 bars in my house and my wife's old school phone have 5 bars all the time.
I highly recommend this product if you have similar problem as I have.

We live in a high-rise apartment complex (concrete and steel construction). We have Cingular/AT&T. Our cell signal strength inside of the apartment is horrible. Although we typically get 2 bars, the voice quality is bad (e.g., lots of static and the signal cuts in and out so that you only catch a few words at times). Furthermore, we don't get a strong enough signal in the interior bathroom or the bedroom. (The signal is at the maximum -- 4 bars -- when we step outside of our building)
We installed the wireless extender inside of the apartment next to a window facing the street. This position is where we get the strongest signal (3/4 bars). I placed the antenna horizontally as the instructions suggested. I placed the wireless extender base unit about 15 feet away from the antenna with the base unit's antenna pointing up as the instructions suggested. The signal is strong now and we can make calls from the bedroom and the interior bathroom.
