Phone, email, messaging and more, all in one. |

Text like crazy on the easy-type keyboard. |
Be mobile. Browse mobile. | Design Under the hood, the Treo 680 features Palm OS 5.4.9, 64MB of non-volatile flash memory available for user storage, and an Intel PXA270 312 MHz processor. The design retains the same popular form factor as the Treo 650 with a few subtle, yet significant, changes. The design is slimmer and lighter, while the updated OS provides for better phone and PDA application integration. The amazing 320 x 320 color touchscreen is still there, as is the full QWERTY backlit keypad. This time though, the expansion card slot is located on the right hand side of the unit. The expansion card slot is compatible with full sized SD cards, and supports up to 2 GB of memory (memory cards sold separately). Other design features include an infrared port for line of sight data transfers, as well as a handy switch for turning off the phone's ringer. A five-way navigator controls most of the phone's menus and operating system functions, while quick application buttons on either side of the navigator get you to your favorite applications in a snap. The left side of the unit features a volume up/down toggle plus a handy user-customizable button that can be assigned to any phone or PDA function. The rear of the Treo 680 houses a loudspeaker, as well as the VGA camera unit. A touch-screen stylus can be tucked away on the right side of the phone. Meanwhile, a combined charging, data, and accessory attachment port is housed on the bottom of the unit, as is a standard 2.5 mm stereo headset jack. Calling and PDA Features All of the Treo 680's phone and PDA functions are designed to provide an integrated, seamless experience. For instance, you can type in the name or initials of a contact on the keypad to dial them. Or, use the touch-screen and stylus to copy information from an email and quickly paste it into another email or text message. Updated from the Treo 650, the 680 sports many improved and new phone/PDA features. The user can now see messages waiting in a preemptive alert window, and the favorites view is now in one vertical easy-to-see list. The length of the favorites list is only limited to available memory. A big dial pad can be formatted on the color touch screen, and the user does not need to go to another application to access the contact list; calling and contacts are all completely integrated. There's even an easy dialing prefix feature for when you're out of the country. Different country presets can be programmed into the 680 for true jet-setter world roaming and cell phone convenience. Lastly, easy access to recently visited applications can be achieved by holding down the launch key. All of the latest phone features folks expect are built-in, too, like a handsfree speakerphone, polyphonic ringtones, a vibrate mode and picture caller ID. The capacity of the unit's address book is only limited by the amount of internal and expansion memory available. Use the Treo 680's Bluetooth capability to wirelessly sync your contacts with your PC or Mac (yes, Mac!). Headsets, car kits and other wireless peripherals can also be paired with the unit via Bluetooth. The Treo 680 is also a fully functional Palm OS device. That means that a huge library of applications, from spreadsheets to word processors to games, can be added to the Treo 680. Download, view, and edit Word and Excel compatible files, rehearse a PowerPoint presentation, even review PDF files, directly on the 680's conveniently large color touchscreen. It's easy to perform multiple tasks like checking your calendar while talking on the phone or dialing calls directly from your contacts list. Familiar Palm OS software ships with the handset including calendar, calculator, clock, contacts, memo, and task management applications. Meanwhile, the unit's memory expansion slot allows you to transfer music, photos, and video from your desktop. Or, use it to load additional games and applications. Messaging and Internet The device fully supports SMS and MMS messaging for rapid exchange of pictures, text and video. Download Web sites fast using the handset's high-speed EDGE data capability, and the included award-winning Blazer Web browser. You can even use Google maps while on-the-go to download turn-by-turn directions. Email is easy, too; with the 680, you can send and receive email from corporate and personal email accounts. You can also use your 680 smartphone as a wireless modem for your laptop. Fun and Games The integrated VGA digital camera included with the Treo 680 sports a 2x digital zoom, features automatic light balancing, can be used to capture video with 352 x 288 pixel resolution, and is outfitted with a handy self-portrait mirror function. If you want to take your tunes with you, the Treo 680 comes with the PocketTunes application, allowing you to load up all your favorite music on SD memory cards, and enjoy MP3 music on the go. Plus, with the ever-expanding library of Palm OS compatible games and other entertainment applications, you'll never be at a loss for something fun to do during break time. Vital Statistics The Palm Treo 680 weighs 5.60 ounces and measures 4.40 x 2.30 x .80 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 4 hours of digital talk time, and up to 300 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.
Product Description Say hello to the Palm Treo 680 smartphone. It's your phone along with email, messaging, and web access. Not to mention your contacts, calendar, photos, and songs. Sounds like a lot. And it is. But everything's so easy to learn that you'll actually use it, which makes it anything but a typical phone. The same goes for design. Pick it up and you'll notice a large color touch screen and an easy-type keyboard. Since the Treo 680 is just the right size, you have the freedom to take it anywhere and still be connected to friends, work, and family. Of course, there's also something called an "off" button, for when you don't want to be connected at all.

My first... will never forget it!!! October 5, 2008 E. Soboll (North East Africa) This is my first smart phone. Was a little concern about the battery life and with the new Centro that came out... but money spoke louder for the first try. I love this Treo!!! As a Mac user, always use Palm (two T5s and one TX). Now I thought that the catch would be that because I'm in Africa it would not work. As soon as it got here, I place my sync card on it and turned it on....Fantastic!! It works perfectly!! The sound is great, I have no calling cuts and the camera really impressed me. The size wasn't to bad and the screen is crystal clear, specially with the sun here. Type messages is great and fun...so easy to use and set up!! The only draw for this unit is the SD port, seems cheap and feels like is going to brake every time I open it, that's when bluetooth comes handy. Just plugged on my Mac and works normally as a hand held. I got one extra battery from Palm and will have it around in case that it needs, but so far, I have two or three days between charges. I love it!! Smartphone is the way to go!! In few months, my wife will get one too!!!!
palm treo 680 September 30, 2008 Tupelo Honey (Mississippi USA) Great phone...my second palm 680. Easy to use. Great Deal. Fast Ship. Great communication..pleasure to do business with.
Early impressions September 26, 2008 Allen R. Hill (Sand Point, AK) A little hard to get working. I had just bought a laptop with windows Vista. It took a download from DocumentsToGo and Palm. Could be bigger like the TungstenC and I miss the SD card slot. I bought it to use as a PDA and needed the QWERTY keyboard to enter lots of numbers in Excel everyday. Too bad there aren't larger PDA's with keyboards. But it's good for gathering data daily and easy to keep dry in our wet windy weather. Seller was a champ - had to ship two units. First one didn't arrive by Priority Mail.
Treo 650 vs treo 680 September 14, 2008 claus (tilburg, nb Netherlands) Ok here my 2 ct's... 1. I had a treo 650 for a couple of years. Pretty good device after I had mad a custom rom. The result was a much larger working memory for programs to run. Most programs were not so much a problem, but nice things like TomTom were testing the device's capabilities. Which resulted in crashes once in a while. Or you had to reset the device before starting the program to retain your much needed precious memory. Ok why am i telling you this? With the treo 680 no more of that. Huge internal working memory makes this device much more stable. So for only this feature, this device is a nice upgrade. 2. Size on paper is not that much of a difference with the treo 650. But it feels so much smaller and lighter. It really is nicer overall. People likes the looks of it, while the treo 650 was referred to as a fridge... 3. Battery, lots of complaints here. But not really true. Be sure you have the latest update. I have 2.12 ROW. I use this thing heavily and it will get you through two days of hard work. My HTC S730 lasted only 1 day for example. It is not bad. Just bought an upgrade battery 1600mh form Seido, which probably keeps my precious alive for 3 days. Keep in mind that push email drains your battery quickly, just like any other phone (charge every day). Consider the auto sync feature. 4. Only gprs...so for internet not so good, same as the treo 650. Still great for email. Exchange works very well. Only thing I cannot do is invite others for an appontment, other options are the same as on windows smartphones. 5. Speed, musch faster than other smartphones i have used. The treo 650 feels faster though. The treo 680 sometimes have to clear its bigger memory (for programs) just like the treo 650. But since the memory is bigger it stalls longer. We are talking 2 seconds here. This does happen occaisssionally. Overall faster then the treo 650 because of the abcense of resets. So its stability vs instant response. Keep in mind comparing the treo 680 with any windows phone...the treo 680 is lightning fast. 6. Softwarewise the treo 680 is loaded. With docs to go, pocket tunes... 7. Build quality. No squeeks. Heard rumors on the net that the 680 can have micro cracks after 2 years of use. 8. SAR rating half of the treo 650 and much other smartphones out there Call quality and reception is much better than the 650 and HTC's I know. At the current price this is an absolute buy. I am really happy with the device. For serious users and pro-consumers this is great. Because of the excellent keyboard and software it is your office everywhere. Good luck.
Decent PDA, Crappy phone August 27, 2008 Chip Dawes (Chicago) I've had a Palm PDA for about 10 years - I love a PDA. This device stinks though. I bought it so I don't have to carry both phone and PDA, but have since switched my SIM card to the free Motorola phone that came with my phone contract and have reverted to carrying two devices again. When the phone is turned on, the PDA freezes for 3-8 seconds at random intervals, the battery drains in less than 24 hours and it makes nearby speakers hum and chirp at random intervals. When the phone is turned off, it works like a normal Palm PDA and the battery holds a charge for at least a week. I think it incredible that while it plays MP3s from the pTunes program, it won't play an MP3 ring tone. Palm must be incapable of or unwilling to hire decent cell phone engineers. Calling Palm support is a waste of time too - you get someone with poor English skills and a script for you to follow. (Hard reset the device & reload). Deviate from the script and forget it - they're totally lost. The PDA is standard Palm PDA, except they pulled the free expense program I used all the time and replaced it with one that costs extra and does less. You're better off with a Tungsten and separate cell phone than this piece of crap. I WILL NOT buy another Palm device when I get around to replacing this one. I'd like to feel that I at least get my $400 worth of use from this PDA before I replace it with a smart phone from another manufacturer.
