Amazon.com Product Description
Optimized for photography, navigation, and Internet connectivity, the Nokia N82 smartphone enables you to travel the globe with its quad-band GSM connectivity and easily stay connected with friends and business colleagues. It features a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and built-in GPS and Nokia Maps software for easy spelunking wherever you may find yourself. The phone also offers Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g) for accessing open networks at home or on the road at hotspots as well as compatibility with 2100 MHz 3G networks (in Europe and Asia). Other features include Bluetooth connectivity for communication headsets, 100 MB of onboard memory, MicroSD expansion, FM radio, digital audio player, Symbian OS, and up to 4.3 hours of GSM talk time.

The pictorially oriented N82 features a 5-megapixel camera, powerful Xenon flash and Carl Zeiss optics.
This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides quad-band connectivity (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz). It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider. When paired with a compatible 3G network that uses UMTS 2100 MHz connectivity (found in Europe and Asia), you'll enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless services with speeds up to 384 Kbps--from data connectivity to your office to multimedia streaming, and take advantage of simultaneous voice and data services. In the United States and foreign territories where 2100 MHz 3G networks are not available, you'll continue to receive data service via EDGE network (depending on network compatibility).

Phone Features
The Nokia N82 has a large 2.4-inch screen with a 240 x 320-pixel resolution and support for 16.7 million colors. It comes with a new content driven 3D multimedia menu and includes a convenient orientation sensor that rotates the user interface automatically between horizontal and portrait mode. It's based on S60 software operating on the Symbian OS, enabling you to personalize the N82 by choosing from the Ovi family of Nokia internet services, including Nokia Music Store, N-Gage games and Nokia Maps. The phone has a 100 MB internal memory, and it's expandable via MicroSD memory cards (up to 4 GB in size).

The Nokia N82 actually has two cameras, a high resolution camera on the back of the device (the main camera in landscape mode) and a lower resolution camera on the front (CIF resolution, 352 x 288). The main 5-megapixel camera on the back of the N95 supports an image capture resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels, and it features a focus range of 10cm (4 inches) to infinity, up to a 20x digital zoom for still images, and a Xenon flash. (Note that the low-resolution camera on the front can provide two-way video calling; however, at this time no U.S. carrier offers this service.)

Fast camera activation, autofocus with a dedicated autofocus assist lamp, fast reloading between shots and DVD-like quality video capture make it a truly convenient and credible tool for capturing and telling your life stories. You can also capture crisp videos at up to a 640 x 480-pixel resolution at 30 frames per second (fps) in 24-bit/16.7-million colors. Images are saved as JPEG files while videos are recorded in the MPEG-4 file format with the .mp4 file extension, or in the 3GPP file format with the .3gp file extension (sharing quality). Photos and video clips can be enjoyed on a compatible television thanks to the device's TV out feature and support for Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) technology.

Find your way with navigation and routing thanks to built-in A-GPS and Nokia Maps.
With high speed Wi-Fi connectivity and one-click upload to online communities, the N82 makes sharing your experiences and discoveries easy. When viewing a picture or video, simply one press of a button starts uploading it while you carry on using the other phone functions.

The integrated A-GPS and preinstalled Nokia Maps help you explore and locate new places, whether in another country or just around the corner. With access to more than 15 million points of interest, you can locate and navigate to the most interesting sights, bars or restaurants wherever you are. You can also send map excerpts and routes to friends by MMS or save map screen shots to the gallery.

Take your media with you when you're out on the go. With the built-in RealPlayer software, you can stream and download your favorite content onto the N82, giving you access to the latest news, sports, and entertainment updates. Or sync up with your PC and play the music and movies stored on your hard drive. It's compatible with a wide variety of digital audio formats (including MP3, AAC, WMA, and secure WMA). You can listen to your favorite radio programs via the integrated FM radio, and the Visual Radio feature lets you see information about songs or artists.

This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones.

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) technology means that the Nokia N82 will discover, interact with, and control other compatible home electronic devices. This includes PCs, media centers, home entertainment systems, new smart appliances, home automation systems, networked peripherals, and Web-based services. With compatible equipment, you can stream video from your Nokia device directly to your TV, or hear music tracks stored on your PC through your living room's sound system.

5 out of 5 stars N82 is Excellent   August 26, 2008

I bought this phone to replace an Ericsson 810i that didn't like to swim in a pool with me. The Ericsson was great except it didn't have WiFi. I wanted a phone with these features: unlocked, 4-band GSM, FM Radio, high quality camera, WiFi, digital audio, syncable calendar/contacts, games, and USB connectivity. This phone has all these plus a whole bunch of extras. Some I can't use because my existing prepaid T-Mobile cell service doesn't support them. I don't normally chat or text very much so the $100/year prepaid service is just fine. The size (slightly larger than my old phones, but light weight) and very clear screen are wonderful. Keys are on the small side, but I find using fingernails work ok. The Nokia N82 is a great phone!
Amazon was the cheapest by far, delivery was fast and free and the 3% kickback by using my Amazon Credit Card made it even more affordable.

5 out of 5 stars Great mobile phone. And great service from Amazon. Again. ;-)   August 21, 2008

I have purchased this item from Amazon about 2 months ago. Was promptly delivered.
I had SE K850i prior to N82. Camera experience: SE loses big time. I finally have no need for my point and shoot camera and am currently selling it. N82: Great photos, nice design, very nice audio quality: both from external speakers and using headphones. Wi-fi works flawlessly. So far it's working perfectly. No restarts or glitches whatsoever. Great phone! Thank you Amazon!

4 out of 5 stars Great Phone   August 11, 2008

Its just a great phone. All features work as expected. The reason i'm not giving a 5 star review is because there is a little problem with my device:

If you open and close, very often, the camera protector, OS get blocked. A restart is needed. Also, some times when I switch from picture mode to video mode, no video screen appears. Again, only a restart is needed.

This is not a constant issue, so I can live with it and enjoy the rest of features like WIFI, GPS, and its great pictures.

I have nokia n82 for 3 month. This phone is an all-in-one feature phone.
1.The basic recieving and talking functions are good. I have used many Nokia phones. They all have good recieving ability.
2.Build-in GPS is a nice feature. When I travel by car, n82 becomes a navigator (I installed Route 66). One thing mentioned by other reviewers is that the small screen issue. So I mainly listen to the sound instructions and just take a glance on screen when navigating. It works well for me this way. Also, I use Nokia Map as an electronic map, the map is free, good in details and can be updated.
3.The camera and vedio is great. The lens is a Carl Zeiss authorized lens. The photograph has well balanced color, sharp and nice contrast. The N82 white balance is accurate which I think a good camera should have. The Xenon flashlight is great for dim environment, much better than LED flashlight like my previous 6682. I have Canon DSLR but still love to use n82 as a carry-on camera.
4.The multimedia is nice. I listen music a lot--MP3 and radio. The sound of n82 is equal to iriver mp3 player when I use Sennheiser CX300 earphones. Besides, you can adjust EQ of N82. The podcast is the other good stuff. I can download podcast episodes via wi-fi and listen whenever I want. Its sound may not as good as N81, but impress me as a smartphone does.
5. Bluetooth function is important to me because I use bluetooth headset. It pairs well with plantronics 510 and nokia BH-211. No dropping happen until now. I am satisfied with it.

All in all, N82 is a good smartphone with many functions. I am very satisfied with it.

I bought the Nokia N82 for the 5MP camera, the full motion 30fps video and the symbian OS. It replaced a SE K790a. The above mentioned features work well and I've never been able to fill my installed 8GB SD micro SDHC card. Initially I was concerned when it turns out some of my favorite programming is transmitted over the internet using the Microsoft WMA format which symbian doesn't support, however, I was able to work around this using my home Sling Player AV and installing Sling Player Mobile on my Nokia N82. Now through T-Mobile internet I listen to and watch a variety of cable programming worldwide which is coming off my home's Verizon FIOS box. I also get Shoutcast internet audio programming directly off internet websites through T-Mobile internet and this, of course, works flawlessly and most efficiently. It would be nice if more internet broadcasters adopted this format. Overall its hard to beat this phone. Battery life is very good considering how I use the phone and it recharges quickly.
