 | The Wilson Electronics Desktop (DT) cell phone signal Booster. View larger. | It's All About Power The primary cause of dropped calls is low signal output power from the cell phone to the cell tower, which limits the phone's ability to communicate with the tower. A typical cell phone provides merely one-fifth of a watt of output power. To address this problem, the amplifier and the outside antenna work together to increase the phone's output power by more than 15 times over using just the phone alone. Enjoy Premium Reception and Fewer Dropped Calls If you have to go to the window or outside to be able to use your cell phone, you know the frustration of weak cell phone signal reception. Using state-of-the-art technology, the Wilson DT amplifies the signal both to and from the cell tower, increasing the power to penetrate through natural or man-made obstructions, thus enabling you to communicate where you were unable to before. The Wilson DT comes with a compact signal booster that fits neatly on your desk or small table, and it works best when placed in the room where you're experiencing problems with reception. Included Hardware for Multiple Mounting Options The Wilson DT is connected via a coaxial cable to the outside antenna, which performs best when mounted outside of the building and pointed towards the nearest cell tower. The antenna may also be mounted on a window (again, best when aimed at the nearest cell tower), or on an outside wall; however, some performance may be lost. Once installed, the Wilson DT enhances the signal of multiple cell phones and data cards near the device. The result is that you will experience fewer dropped calls, clearer call quality, and improved data rates--even with 3G technologies. Compatible with Most Cell Phone Models and Providers The Wilson DT is compatible with all US and Canadian cellular providers, excluding iDEN, Nextel, and MIKE. Also, it supports CDMA, TDMA, GSM, and AMPS cell phone technologies, as well as data protocols such as GPRS, 1xRTT, HSDPA, EVDO, and EDGE. The Wilson DT Signal Booster includes a 30-day money-back guarantee and is backed by a one-year manufacturer's warranty. Specifications

Works well, limited range September 7, 2010 Danielle S. Navin It only took me 5 minutes to set it up for testing. Simple instructions are included. Before installation, I was getting 0-1 bars (mostly 0) and could not make phone calls. I now get 3-5 in the living room. It drops to 1-2 as soon as I leave the living room. Calls sound good. Data is a bit slow, but we aren't 3G yet. Works for what I need it for.
Easy set-up & it works! August 25, 2010 B. Junkin-Mills (West Chester, PA United States) I got this product months ago but had to wait until we moved to review it; our previous house had excellent cell coverage throughout. Our new house, however, is a split-level with the living room (where we do most of our, you know, living)on a lower level. Cell coverage down there is 1-2 bars with occasional dropped calls if you move around.
SET-UP: I was excited to finally try this booster out, but I was also a little apprehensive about set-up. To my relief, the instructions were well-explained and set-up was easy. There are 3 pieces in the box: The outside antenna, the desktop antenna, and the amplifier. The outside antenna (which is a plastic box that sits in a plastic cradle) has a variety of mounting options - including window mount. You have to attach the outside antenna to the amplifier with coax cable (they give you 50' of cable) so keep that in mind when choosing a place for the exterior mount. (And of course you also have to find the spot with the strongest existing signal.) We did have to fuss around a bit to find a spot where the exterior antenna got a strong signal and could be connected inside to the amplifier, which also has to be plugged in AND connected to the desktop antenna. Once we had that figured out though, actual set-up was super-fast and we had a green light in minutes.
HOW IT WORKS: We now have 5 bars everywhere in our Living Room (about 25' x 20'). That's the only place we needed a boost and the whole room is covered. I can't really address range because elsewhere in the house our coverage was already good.
BOTTOM LINE: You need 2 things to get your money's worth from this booster: 1- The ability to follow directions during set-up, including putting some thought into the unit placement, and 2- An existing cell signal somewhere withing 50ish feet. If you have those, and you need a signal boost, this baby does the trick.
If you do not want to go back to hard line phone August 17, 2010 Serg (US) I canceled my ground phone service as many people did. However cell phone is a radio and it is unstable in some week signal areas. This Booster is alternative to Microcell of AT@T (which required Internet) and does not require any additional connections. It just boost your cell phone signal in limited area in radius at least 30 feet from antennas. Here what I did. I had no idea where is the cell phone transceiver tower so I found most powerful spot with maximum signal bars with my cell phone near window, mounted cradle antenna with logo sign facing window, mounted cable from this antenna across the room to amplifier, connected "on board" antenna (cable about 4feet with desktop antenna) to the amplifier and moved away from amplifier as far as possible facing logo on this antenna in opposite side to first one (back to back). I got green light immediately and 6-7 bars instead 2-3.
It works great if you are between antennas in direct sight. When I go to another room I have 3-4 bars and only one wall between cell phone and antennas.
So did it solve my problem - yes for 90% but still there was not stable sound when I talked on the phone but much clear though. Did it boost in 15 times - no.
It can help but not for 100%. So IMO the price should be adequate OR 100% result.
PS It worked with AT@T, cell Nokia 5800
Does what it says. Read the directions. August 16, 2010 R. Jones This product works very well. I went from 1-2 bars to mostly 5 bars (pre iPhone update). Getting the outside and inside units far enough apart from each other (to avoid feedback) was tricky, but I was able to do it.
Outstanding product - does what it says August 14, 2010 City boy in the woods We have a cabin deep in the woods in Southern Indiana, where the only way to get more than one bar was to go up the hill or, as I found out, be standing on the (metal) roof. Inside the cabin, zero bars. I normally work from home and wanted a way to use my aircard on my laptop so I could, if needed, work from the cabin as well as get on business calls. I did a lot of research and this product seemed to fit the bill. I have an old UHF/VHF antenna tower next to the cabin, so I climbed up it, clamped the cradle and antenna facing the cell tower, dropped the line down, drilled a hole through the cabin wall, fished the provided 30' cable through, hooked it to the booster and antenna and turned it on - FOUR BARS throughout the 1200 sf cabin! The whole thing took less than one hour to set everything up. Crystal clear Verizon cell calls and could watch streaming video on my laptop with Verizon USB modem. I did an intial 'speed test' and here were my results: 2.0 Mb/s Download and 0.61 Mb/s Upload (to a server in Chicago for some reason). Great product - I highly recommend it!
