Amazon.com Product Description
The Powermat Home and Office mat is a slim, sleek charging mat for home or office. What's a charging mat, you ask? Good question. Powermat's Wireless Charging System offers a clean, simple way to keep all those personal electronic devices charged, without a mess of cables. With the Powermat system, you choose a mat and then choose the receivers to match the devices you want to charge. Each mat includes a Universal Powercube receiver that allows you to charge hundreds of devices. You can also purchase receivers custom designed to fit on your devices, so you never need to remove them to use your device.

The Powermat Wireless Charging System provides a simple, fast and efficient way to keep all of your favorite personal electronic devices charged. Click to enlarge.

The Powermat Wireless Charging System

Wireless Charging
Connect your devices to Powermat Receivers, and simply drop them on the Powermat to charge wirelessly, as fast or faster than the stock power adaptor. A unique sound lets you know a solid connection has been made (an additional sound is heard when you remove your device--both are adjustable and can be turned off), and an indicator light--also adjustable--is displayed while a device is charging.

Use Only What You Need
Communication between the Powermat and Receivers allows the mat to give exactly enough power for exactly the right time. When a device is fully charged, power is shut off to that device, so no energy is wasted. If a device is used while on the mat, the system knows it--charging starts up again until you've got a full charge.

Wired USB Connection
For legacy USB devices, or a quick charge while all your Receivers are in use, Powermats also feature a wired USB connection. It may not be wireless, but it's better than finding another free power outlet.

Slick Design
Industrial design is key for personal electronics, and the Powermat appropriately follows suit. The Home and Office Mat features a minimal curved design that will work in most any environment, while the fold-up Portable Mat looks sharp and stows away simply for travel.

Powermat custom Receivers are like a second skin for the device they charge, enabling access to all controls and keeping the design clean and simple. Receivers are available for iPods and iPhones, Nintendo DS, various Blackberry models, and more.

So How Does It Work?
Powermat utilizes principles of magnetic induction combined with Powermat proprietary patent-pending technology to safely and effectively provide power to electronic devices. Powermat transforms surfaces including walls, tables, floors and desktops into safe, simple, and efficient conductors of energy. It replaces the need to access multiple electrical sockets for real-time powering and charging of electronic devices. Neat, huh?

1 out of 5 stars Waste of money   July 27, 2010

The mat must be plugged in and is not wireless. Sorry I wasted my money on this piece of junk

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   June 9, 2010

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1UD7DVOHCVBGQ All it takes is a little research before you buy. All of these negative reviews are silly. This product uses induction charging technology, just like your Oral B toothbrush. Only devices equipped with the proper induction receivers will charge on this, EXCEPT for the back USB port. It'll charge anything USB. I don't know of any products being sold that already have a Powermat induction receiver built in. Thus, you must buy receivers for your products, like iPhone docks, Powercubes, and iPhone cases - all made buy Powermat.

Here's what I'm charging with it:

iPhone 3GS in Otterbox Defender on Powermat Dock with SendStation Dock Extender (available on Amazon; requires slight sanding to fit into Otterbox case).
iPad 16GB on Powermat Dock with SendStation Dock Extender (available on Amazon; requires slight sanding to fit into Otterbox case).
HTC EVO 4G plugged into Powermat Powercube Receiver
Cisco 7921G Wireless IP Phone plugged into back USB Port.

All devices charge. It works quite well. Read the instructions. The base is magnetized and you can feel your devices slip into the proper place, towards the front of the Powermat. There are only 3 spots on this Powermat (plus the back USB port).

Please, research a product before you buy and don't assume anything; don't leave a bad review because you failed to research the product and you just magically expected it to work. It's a technological product. Not a magical product.

2 out of 5 stars Why Bother   June 8, 2010

I, like many I suppose, liked the idea of putting a portable device (or several) on a mat to charge. On a trip to Best Buy the other day, my ten year-old techno-son found it, saying, "how cool is this?" I bought it, not fully reading the box. It may be "wire-less", but it's not "wireless" as we know it, as in WiFi. You need an adapter for each device, which plugs in to the device, then the adapter has to lay on the right spot on the mat to charge. The mat of course needs to be plugged in to an AC outlet. It's just as easy to plug the charger into an AC outlet and into the device. The only advantage I can see is maybe fewer wires, as up to 3 devices can be charged at once. Also, the USB port on the back doesn't work with my iPhone or Rocketfish USB cord. Basically a needless product with some great marketing.

1 out of 5 stars It seems to be wireless but it isn't ...   May 13, 2010

I would like to hand it to the advertising people. They make it sound like its a wireless charging device but in reality it is only if you buy their special case for a select few devices ... which buy the way is sold separately. In the situations where they don't offer the special case a wireless to power cord adapter is available for purchase which negates the whole wireless idea, again sold separately. There are many other detail reviews that are all saying the same thing which is it isn't as sleek as it sounds and there are many hidden costs. You must add an adapter to your phone (which will make it bigger) in order to charge it.

What I would like to mention is an alternative. Check out the following link to Gomadic's Universal Charging Station, this charging station is the only true charging station that comes with the charger and a few free tips to charge many devices. I see they sell tips separately for over 3,000+ devices, this charging station is truly upgradable and universal with no hidden gotchas.

Gomadic Universal Charging Station for the Apple iPhone 3GS and many other mobile devices - uses Gomadic TipExchange Technology - 4 tips included

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing and Pointless   April 22, 2010

When I first saw this, I felt I needed it, even though it cost a $100. However, when I received it, I realized how useless it really is. If you do not have an iphone, ipad, or blackberry, you must plug in your device to an adapter, and then place the adapter on the mat. Even if you have one of those devices, be expected to pay another $30 per device just to make it work. It really makes it no different than plugging your charger into the wall outlet. I feel that this is NOT AS ADVERTISED, and would not waste your money on it. Mine is being returned tomorrow.
